The Good News Ministry | Parables | Sermons

The starting point of Jesus' ministry was when He was around twelve years old, when He taught in the temple and many were amazed at His knowledge for such a young boy. In much of His younger years, Jesus traveled with His great uncle, Joseph of Arimathea "the tin man." In the book of Matthew their was one called John the Baptist who talked of the coming Messiah. Jesus would come to him to be baptized; And a voice came from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. When Jesus ascended to His place with God, man now knew God's master plan for the human race. A plan of unending love and salvation. God was no longer a far away mystery; He had revealed His nature and character in Jesus, "Emmanuel" God with us. Because Jesus was both God and man, He joined man to the timeless reality of God. Because He was God, He was able to overcome sin and death. Because He was also man, mankind can share in His victory. Because He came down to us, and rose again, we can rise, redeemed from sin and death, as children of the Almighty God.

Jesus' reputation as a great teacher spread far and wide. His sermons were simple and to the point, which made His lessons clear to all who were ready to learn. Nature that was so much part of His youth surged into His words, charged with life. He taught that all men are sinners and break God's law, but that God in His love, forgives repentant sinners. But, why did Christ speak in so many parables? Jesus was a Master of the parable, and he used this device often in his teaching with great effect. Parables can often help us to understand great spiritual truth's and will often challenge us to think and make a decision about the story we have heard. Those who were receptive to spiritual truth understood the parables; to others they were only stories without meaning. Let us open our spiritual eyes and ears and learn the messages in the simplicity that Jesus Christ taught in His parables and sermons.
